Some things in life I see I don't understand
Sometimes I miss the point to things that they've planned
'Cos I know dead fish don't swim home
When the seas get left alone
When things don't go as well as they would have planned
The big fish lose control big fish on the land
I know dead fish don't swim home
When the seas get left alone
I know dead fish don't swim home
When things go wrong the big fish sound the alarm
Potential dangers lead to potential calm
I know dead fish don't swim home
When the seas get left alone
They play their games with toys they welcome a war
When will the big fish learn just what life is for
'Cos I know dead fish don't swim home
When the seas get left alone
I know dead fish don't swim home
I know dead fish don't swim home
When the seas get left alone
I know dead fish don't swim home
I know dead fish don't swim home
When the seas get left alone
I know dead fish don't swim home
I know dead fish don't swim home
When the seas get left alone
I know dead fish don't swim home
I know dead fish don't swim home
When the seas get left alone
Great opening of totally reversed synth pads/motifs. I'm sure there's an opportunity for a whole album of reversed NM material to be released the right way round! Then the insistent rhythm, strummed guitar, and great vocal explode on the scene. Very catchy (is there a track on this album that isn't?!) and features one of the most effective silent moments at the 3.10 mark. Also notable, throughout the album, is the impeccable sound and production quality. Amazing considering the age. This was pre-digital right?
Top track.

This is I think one of the more unusual tracks on the album. The intro is certainly most unusual right from the off. Some fine reversed synth, and you wonder how long this lovely intro will seemingly repeat itself before bursting into life. And how it does...
A very energetic track, with nice 'splashy' 12 string and compressed percussive synth effects. The other guitar work is great too. The stereo soundstage is used to full effect.
Those descending synth notes at the 3.00 mark (and repeated later) are a very nice touch. And the way it suddenly and unexpectedly stops after Tony's "...potential calm" lyric at 3.08 is nothing short of fantastic.
The lyrics are about Tony's fear of nuclear war. Simply worded yet highly effective. Is there no filler on this album?
It's a track which deserves a better write-up than this one, but I'm just a little too time-strapped right now.
Nonetheless, it's getting:
95/100
Another album track gem.

Footnote: regarding the nuclear war theme of this track, an anagram of "New Musik" is "Nuke Swim".
